Marriage Taught Me Valuable Lessons

Life is a trial, and marriage can be a test of faith. What’s crucial is to marry someone who fears Allah. Unfortunately, the fear of Allah we preach to our sisters isn’t always reflected in some of our men. These sisters often end up questioning the faith we encouraged them to have. Could it be that some men pretend to have this fear but don’t truly possess it?

The foundation of marriage is built on love, deen, and compatibility. Marriage is half of our deen, and we must live with one another honorably. What do we call a man who neglects his pregnant wife simply because she’s offended him? Where is the love in such a man’s heart? Where is the fear of Allah? Why would someone impregnate a woman and leave her to care for the pregnancy and baby alone? That is humiliating and disheartening!

On the other hand, marriage has taught me valuable lessons about patience, perseverance, and endurance. It’s taught me that trials can come in marriage and that I shouldn’t dismiss opportunities for counseling and guidance from those who’ve experienced similar challenges. Marriage has also shown me that it’s not always easy and that comparisons with others’ relationships are unfair. Marriage has taught many of us to learn from our mistakes and advise others not to rush into or out of marital challenges without careful consideration. Perhaps life is a trial, and things can still be resolved if both parties are willing to work on their issues.

Those who think they’re superior to their spouses could benefit from humility and fearing the Most High. Marriage has also been a blessing for women who remain faithful despite being tested by unfaithful spouses. Allah may replace the unfaithful spouse with someone better.

When Allah tests you in your marriage, don’t make a rash decision. There are many factors to consider before closing all doors. Will the next man be better than your previous husband? What about his faith and fear of Allah?

If you plan to divorce your husband because he married another woman and you have children, you need to weigh the chances of finding a man willing to accept children. You may likely end up in a similar situation again (getting married to an already married man). In all, prayers are necessary, and do not always base your judgment on emotions. May Allah ease the affairs of our homes and guide us to nurture our relationships with love and care.

Marriage is Ibadah

Remembering your ‘why’ in marriage is crucial. It’s essential to support each other through life’s ups and downs, ensuring neither partner becomes weak. When trials come, like infertility struggles, your spouse might feel overwhelmed. As a supportive partner, stand tall, reminding them of Allah’s mercy and that joy is on the horizon.

Trials can shake faith, causing us to drift from our spiritual practices. A spiritually grounded partner can gently guide the other back to their Rabb. Choose wisely, and may Allah protect and strengthen our marriages.

Marriage and Health Issues

A couple faced a daunting challenge when the husband suffered a stroke, followed by the wife. This predicament took a toll on their lives, especially the wife, who became the breadwinner after her husband’s health and financial struggles. Now, with her own health compromised, their future looks uncertain. Imagine the suffering this family might endure, especially if their children are still young and unable to shoulder responsibilities.

Life is a trial, and marriage can be one too.i Reflecting on Allah’s mercy can foster appreciation for one another. No one wishes for afflictions like losing a spouse or struggling with health issues. As couples, let’s cultivate gratitude and hope in Allah. Your husband may not give you everything you want, but he’s still trying. Your wife may have weaknesses, but she’s alive and cares for your children. Marriage isn’t about comparing your partner to others; it’s about appreciating what you have. Alhamdulillah in all situations.

The Mind Revenge: A Barrier to Lasting Love

One of the key elements that gives marriage a lasting edge is when both couples make a conscious effort to avoid intentionally hurting the one they love. A union between two lovely people not only strengthens their love but also creates a lasting bond. However, when challenges arise, and one party is hurt due to the other’s behavior or character, the hurt individual may develop a mindset of revenge. This mindset, often seen in women, can manifest as a deep-seated desire to retaliate or hurt the other party in the future, especially in old age.

I hear you, and I feel your pain deeply. It’s understandable to feel this way, given the hurt and exhaustion you’ve endured. The sadness and vacuum in your heart are palpable. However, I want to encourage you today to let go of this mindset of revenge. Holding onto it can consume you and prevent you from healing and moving forward.

Instead, consider the power of forgiveness and letting go. Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting the hurt or excusing the other person’s behavior, but rather releasing the hold it has on you. By choosing to forgive, you can begin to heal and rebuild your life. Remember, life is too short to be consumed by bitterness and anger. Choose love, forgiveness, and peace, and let go of the need for revenge.

By doing so, you’ll not only free yourself from the weight of resentment but also create space for personal growth, healing, and potentially, a more fulfilling relationship – either with your partner or with yourself.

The Foundation of a Blessed Family

Choose Well, Dear: The Foundation of a Blessed Family

The person you choose to marry plays a significant role in shaping the future of your children and the kind of family you build. Compatibility in Deen and character is not just important – it’s a deal-breaker. You want a partner who shares your values and aspirations, especially when it comes to nurturing your children.

Imagine wanting to raise a child who memorizes the Quran, but your partner struggles to pray five times a day. Or envision wanting your daughter to wear the hijab with pride, but your partner is indifferent or even opposed to it. Such differences can create deep-seated hurt and regret, hindering your ability to achieve your goals as a parent.

When choosing a life partner, consider whether they will support your efforts to raise children who are strong in their faith and morals. A compatible partner can be a source of strength and encouragement, while an incompatible one can be a source of stress and conflict.

Don’t settle for anything less than a partner who shares your commitment to your faith and values. The benefits of a harmonious and like-minded partnership far outweigh the risks of potential disagreements and conflicts. By choosing wisely, you’ll lay the foundation for a blessed family and a brighter future for your children.

Catching a Glimpse of a Woman

You don’t realize the weight of your own struggles until you see others who’ve faced challenges so daunting they’ve lost their eyesight to tears.

Yesterday, I caught a glimpse of a woman wiping away her tears without her noticing me. I was torn between approaching her and respecting her privacy, knowing that sometimes inquisitiveness can be hurtful. Often, people just need to cry out their pain and reflect deeply before making a decision. So, I chose to remember her in my prayers instead. May Allah ease her affairs and bring her peace.

Life can be overwhelming, especially for women. It’s crucial for us to be aware of the struggles those around us might be facing. As loved ones, it’s essential to be supportive, understanding, and forgiving toward one another. Life is indeed complicated and delicate. When interacting with others, let’s strive to be as kind as possible. May Allah ease all our affairs and guide us to be a source of comfort for those in need.

Umm Sumayyah Mai

Allah loves Us, He loves You

Allah, the Most Merciful, is patient and forgives us when we call upon Him, acknowledging our enormous sins. Allah’s love is evident when He reminds us that we still have the opportunity to make amends and changes in aspects of our lives that displease Him. He assures us of His Rahma, that as long as we are alive, we can seek forgiveness repeatedly. Allah loves you, dear one, and your test lies in embracing His mercy and striving to become a better version of yourself.

Let His love and mercy guide you on your journey, and may you find solace in His words: ‘And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons their evil deeds…’ (Quran 42:25). Remember, His love and forgiveness are always available to those who sincerely seek Him.

May He grant us His love, and the love of those whom He loves.
