Things happen everywhere, and this is one of the reasons I have reservations about sending my children to public schools. However, should parents now become so afraid that they hesitate to send their children to either public or private schools simply because someone, somewhere, may be harbouring dangerous intentions toward them?
The death of Jarvits Frimpong has deeply touched me as a mother. It is heartbreaking to imagine any child going through such a painful experience of bullying, only for that experience to end in the loss of their precious life.
No parent should have to bury a child because of another person’s cruelty. No child should have to endure intimidation, harassment, or violence in a place where they are supposed to learn, grow, and feel safe.
This is deeply sad, disturbing, and distressing. It also reminds us that bullying must never be dismissed as ordinary childhood behaviour or something children should simply learn to tolerate.
Parents, teachers, school administrators, and society at large must take children’s safety and emotional well-being seriously. We cannot shield our children from every danger in this world, but we must never stop doing our best to protect them.
May Allah comfort Jarvits Frimpong’s family, grant them the strength to bear this unimaginable loss. May Allah protect our children wherever they may be. Āmīn.
