Preparing Our Hearts

The weaknesses of our hearts are immense, causing destruction and chaos in our lives. We’re consumed by distractions, constantly glued to our phones and the media. This addiction worsens daily, and it’s no exaggeration to say that our youth are heavily influenced by what they see in the media and often tempted to emulate it.

Our souls are being corrupted, and the media’s distractions have replaced the Quran, Adkhar, and tarbiyyah (nurturing) of our children.

As Ramadan approaches, let’s prepare our hearts for this blessed month. Let’s gather resources that will benefit us during and after Ramadan. Make a sincere intention to maximize the opportunities Ramadan presents.

It’s time to eliminate distractions and immerse ourselves in the spirit of Ramadan. Block out distractions, increase your Quran recitation, and observe Qiyamul Layl (night prayers) regularly.

Humble yourself, acknowledge your sins, and seek forgiveness from Allah, the Owner of our souls.

Let’s start preparing now and prepare well. May Allah grant us a blessed and transformative Ramadan.

As a Mother of Multiple Daughters

I’m still concerned about the recent incident. I’ll continue to raise awareness to prevent such occurrences in the future.

To all youngsters, remember:

Your Adkhar is extremely important. It’s your coat, and you need it at all times.

Avoid engaging in private chats with strangers, especially men, via inbox.

Refrain from sharing your phone number online unless necessary.

Refrain from uploading personal photos.

Prioritize your self-worth and dignity over material gain. Be content and don’t chase men for financial security.

May Allah protect and guide you all.

My Heartfelt Advice to Youngsters

I’m still disturbed by the shocking incident in Ilorin. As a word of caution, I urge you girls to avoid double dating. Once you’re committed to someone, stick with them unless circumstances change.

The recent tragedy highlights the dangers of entertaining multiple relationships. The deceased had a prospective husband, yet somehow, the perpetrator gained her trust and obtained her contact information. This disturbing incident has left me concerned.

Please, avoid accepting multiple proposals simultaneously. Commit to one person, and if that relationship doesn’t work out, then consider another. Your safety and well-being are paramount.

Important Advice for Our girls

Don’t consider a man without a legitimate source of income or whose income is suspicious.

Remember, it’s not all about money!

Avoid ‘Jalabi’ boys (those involved in questionable activities) and don’t let them deceive you into rituals.

Avoid visiting any man you meet online at his home – it can be extremely dangerous.

Stop chatting with strangers, especially men, on social media.

Your safety is paramount!

Involve your parents in your relationships; let them investigate and guide you.

Be transparent about any man you’re interested in, even Sunni.

Never think you can navigate marriage alone; involve your family and seek their counsel.

The Blessing Beside You!

One of the most profound discoveries I’ve made about marriage is that many of us often overlook the tremendous blessing that our spouses are in our lives. We tend to take this extraordinary gift for granted, failing to recognize its true value and significance. However, I urge you to shift your perspective and start seeing your spouse as the precious blessing that they are.

In times of financial strain and hardship, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. But remember, Allah has blessed you with a life partner, a companion to share your joys and sorrows, while many others are still searching for theirs. Let us not forget that the presence of a loving spouse is a treasure that should be cherished and appreciated every day.

It’s often said that we don’t truly appreciate what we have until we lose it. So, let us cultivate a sense of gratitude and thankfulness to Allah for the gift of our spouses. They are the ones who wipe away our tears, offer us words of comfort, and reassure us that everything will be alright.

In a world filled with uncertainty and challenges, it’s the love and reassurance from our spouses that we need to navigate life’s ups and downs. May Allah grant us the gift of everlasting joy and make our spouses a continuous source of blessing and strength in our lives. May we always cherish, appreciate, and honor the precious gift of our partners, and may our marriages be filled with love, harmony, and happiness.

Thinking about life

Time Fleeting, Memories Remaining

The days blend into weeks, and the weeks into months, have you ever stopped to ponder the transience of life? The passage of time is relentless, leaving us with only memories of what has been. Ramadan’s approach is a pitiful reminder of the fleeting nature of our existence. As December arrives, I find myself reflecting on the year that has passed. Have I merely added another year to my life, or have I truly lived?

My heart trembles as I consider the wrongs I have committed, often carelessly and without mindfulness. The passing of days is a stark reminder of the fragility of life. I am humbled by the thought of those who have departed this world, leaving behind only memories.

I am also reminded of the distractions that consume our lives – the endless hours spent on social media, the temptations that surround us, and the secrets we keep hidden. And yet, despite these distractions, we must remember that our time on this earth is limited. The inevitability of death is a reality we cannot escape. The Angel of Death will come for each of us, and we will be called to account for our deeds. And so, I ask myself: am I prepared to meet my Lord? Have I lived a life that is pleasing to Him?

Indeed, the pursuit of worldly wealth and possessions is a fleeting endeavor. Let us not forget to prepare for the life that is to come. May Allah guide us on the path of righteousness and grant us the wisdom to live a life that is pleasing to Him. I am sober! I am indeed humbled, Oh, Allah!

An Excerpt from My New Book Fabulous at Forty-Five: Designing Your Next Chapter.

“Oh Allah, as I stand before You in my forties, I reflect on the journey that has brought me to this moment. I am grateful for the blessings You have bestowed upon me, for the opportunities I have had, and for the lessons I have learned.

As I look to the future, I pray that You guide me to live a life of intention, purpose, and joy. Help me to prioritize my relationship with You, to nurture my soul, and to cultivate a sense of inner peace.

Grant me the wisdom to let go of the things that no longer serve me, to release the burdens that weigh me down, and to embrace the beauty of simplicity.

As I navigate the challenges of midlife, I pray that You give me the strength to be resilient, the courage to be vulnerable, and the faith to trust in Your plan.

Help me to be a source of love, compassion, and kindness to those around me. Grant me the ability to forgive myself and others, to let go of grudges, and to cultivate a sense of empathy and understanding.

Oh Allah, I ask that You bless me with good health, with a strong and resilient heart, and with a mind that is clear and focused. Bless me with the opportunity to continue growing, learning, and evolving as a Muslimah.”

Sincerely, I offended them!

There are people in my inbox who have messaged me without getting a response. Whilst this isn’t intentional, I sincerely want to tender my unreserved apology to you all. By Allah, it’s not easy to answer everyone. Sometimes, I started to respond and got caught up in another thing. Sometimes, I just want to be alone and think deeply about life and my challenges. A lot of people do not understand that you also have challenges you deal with. It may not even be you directly but maybe someone close to you. That means you have something disturbing your mind, and you will not be able to even check a message, let alone answer it.

When our sister Sekinah passed away, I remembered this place, and I tried to appraise myself. What will the Muslim community say about me after I am gone? Who truly am I, and how many people have I either annoyed or hurt directly or indirectly? I always like to free my mind and speak up about my concerns. That’s who I am. I hate pretenses, and I welcome anyone who says to my face, “You are wrong.” That’s only going to be welcomed after you have established the truth, meaning you have heard my side of the story. As for what is apparent and doesn’t need to be asked about, yes, corrections need to be taken, and we should move on. We are not in this life for play. We are here for a divine purpose, and our actions and inactions matter.

If you are angry that I didn’t respond to your messages, please don’t be. I am very weak. It’s a weakness on my path. I will continue to try. I just want to keep the love we share intact for the sake of Allah. May Allah forgive us all. May you find it easy to forgive me.
