The other day, I took my daughter to her math class, and afterward, I could not help but call my son to thank him. He is usually the one who takes her to and from her classes. Although children can sometimes be resistant or reluctant when asked to do things, my son has often made an effort to please me and fulfill my requests.
That day, I experienced something that reminded me just how much I value his help and willingness to serve his family. It made me pick up the phone, thank him sincerely, and make du’a for him.
Sometimes, in the busyness of life, we become so accustomed to the good our children do that we forget to acknowledge it. Yet a few words of appreciation can mean so much.
If your son or daughter is consistently available for you, helps without being constantly reminded, checks on you, assists their siblings, or strives to make your life easier, thank Allah for them. Let them know that you notice their efforts. Show them how much you appreciate and love their kind hearts. Encouragement and gratitude can strengthen the bond between parents and children, inspiring them to continue doing good.
Our young adult children are still growing, learning, and finding their way. Just as we appreciate encouragement from others, they, too, need to know that their efforts are seen and valued.
May Allah protect our children, guide them to what pleases Him, grant them steadfastness upon His religion, bless them with righteous companions, and grant them success in this life and the Hereafter. Amiin.
