I sometimes see that some Muslim parents whose children are left-handed do not pay attention to them using it for meals. I have one, but we made sure the child uses the right hand to eat from being a toddler. It’s fun to see their creativity, but wrong to allow them to use their left to eat. As Muslims, our left hand is for purification while we use the right to eat. Yes, they are allowed to write with their left hand without any problem. I wouldn’t take that away from any child. I wouldn’t force a child to change his writing side.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) once said: “O young boy, say the name of Allaah and eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearest to you.” ( al-Bukhaari)
He also advised that “No one among us should eat with his left hand or drink with it, for the Shaytaan eats with his left hand and drinks with
it.” (Muslim). We ask that Allah grant us steadfastness.
